Publishing Companies Need to Diversify!

I’ve noticed that there are millions of writers from everywhere in the world on Inkitt and Wattpad, but I see very little diversity in the selection of books by Inkitt and Wattpad for promotion and publishing. That really doesn’t sit well with me. I am thankful for the community, but I have seen many publishers make a pledge to diversify only to see that they aren’t following that pledge up with actions.

The world is a beautiful place. It’s full of color and wonder. People travel to different countries to observe different cultures because the aromas, colors, cultures, flavors, and people’s differences somehow add joy and enrichment to foreign visitor’s life. Why is it okay to visit other countries and observe other people, yet mute their voices in what we read in books and view on TV?

Publishing is and always has been reserved for a select few. The world has changed. Times have changed. People have changed. Writing has changed. What people read SHOULD change. What is being published should reflect what has changed. Publishing shouldn’t be a continuously boring stream of the same old stories retold by similar people who are using different last names.

It’s time for books to reflect the world. People want to see positive images of themselves in what they read in BOOKS and view on TV screens. It’s 2019 and it’s time for PUBLISHING TO CATCH UP & DIVERSIFY.
